Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe told China's President Xi Jinping that he aims to improve all aspects of Japan-China ties.
The two leaders held talks while attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Lima, Peru where they agreed to work together to build a stable, friendly relationship.
The Japanese prime minister said that, as next year the two nations will mark the 45th anniversary of the normalization of ties, and the year after that the 40th anniversary of a peace and friendship treaty.
Abe said Chinese Premier Li Keqiang will visit Japan for the first time to attend a summit that includes South Korea and is planned to be held by the end of the year.
Abe said he will make the occasion fruitful for Japan-China relations.
He said he hopes to establish a stable, friendly relationship between Japan and China on all fronts, while appropriately dealing with concerns.
Xi said it is important for the two countries to improve ties within a friendly mindset, by continually holding productive discussions, properly addressing concerns, and improving public morale.
This is Abe and Xi's first meeting since September, when they met on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit in China.
