On Tuesday, a Russian cargo plane loaded with food and other first necessity products took off from Erebuni airport of Armenia's capital Yerevan with a mission to provide humanitarian aid to Syria, local Armenpress news agency reported.
Armenian Defense Minister, Vigen Sargsyan, who was at the airport to inspect the cargo told the media that in the frameworks of the Collective Security Treaty organization (CSTO) Russia had offered Armenia to join efforts in providing humanitarian assistance to the people of Syria and the Armenian side gladly took up on the offer. According to Minister Sargsyan, Armenia has already sent 40 tons of humanitarian aid to Syria.
This was not the first such move by the Armenian government. In October of 2016, two other planes packed with humanitarian assistance departed from Yerevan to Syria.
