Egyptian presidency appreciates Cypriot cooperation to end plane's hijacking

The Egyptian presidency on Tuesday expressed sincere thanks and appreciation for the leadership and the Government of Cyprus for providing full support and close cooperation with the Egyptian authorities during the hijacking incident of an EgyptAir plane, that was diverted to the Cypriot Larnaca Airport.

In a statement, the presidency said that the Cypriot authorities have shown rapid response, high professionalism, and wisdom in dealing with difficult security challenges.

Cypriot leadership and government's cooperation and coordination reversed once again the depth of relations and strong ties between the two countries that make them an example in regional cooperation that contribute to achieving security and stability in the Middle East and the Mediterranean, the statement concluded. 

Earlier, the Cypriot Foreign Ministry announced that the hijacked Egyptian plane crisis is over and its hijacker has been arrested.

The EgyptAir Airbus A320, with 50 passengers on board along with seven cabin crew members and one security officer, was hijacked earlier in the day and forced to land in Cyprus.

Flight MS181 passenger plane was originally travelling from Alexandra's Borg El Arab Airport to Cairo.
