Hamas calls on Palestinian consensus gov't to carry out its duties in Gaza

Islamic Hamas movement on Saturday called on the Palestinian consensus government to fully carry out its duties in the Gaza Strip.

The movement said in an official statement that it demanded the consensus government to carry out its duties based on the successful steps that ensure the government's full takeover of its responsibilities in Gaza.

"We have followed with high responsibility and positiveness over the past days the transfer of power and the full handover of responsibility to the consensus government," said Hamas.

It added that Hamas leadership had held a series of meetings to follow up the honest and accurate implementation of the reconciliation agreements.

On Oct. 12, Hamas and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah party signed in Cairo a reconciliation agreement, which called on the Islamic movement to hand over its power to the consensus government headed by Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah.

According to the agreement, Hamas was scheduled to transfer its power in Gaza to the consensus government on Dec. 1, however, the two rivals agreed to postpone the process to Dec. 10 to allow more time to settle all details.

The files of the interior security in the Gaza Strip and the employees, appointed by Hamas after the movement's takeover of the Gaza Strip in 2007, are the most thorny issues that postponed the transfer of power.

Hamas stressed that it had agreed to separate the tracks of the government's performance on the ground with the political issues and the files were included in the reconciliation agreement.
