Kuwaiti authorities took extra security measures to guarantee the safety of Russian Ambassador here Alexei Solomatin following the assassination of a Russian diplomat in Ankara on Monday.
Russian Ambassador in Ankara Andrei Karlov has been shot dead by a police officer who shouted “Don’t forget Aleppo” as he pulled the trigger.
In press statements, Ambassador Solomatin lauded efforts by the Kuwaiti authorities to secure the embassy and offer all possible facilities to staffers there.
He added that more security guards were sent to him, expressing comfort over the tight security measures taken to protect him as well as the staffers.
The Russian embassy in Kuwait has earlier condemned the assassination, saying this heinous crime was carried out to undermine efforts to reach a political settlement to the Syrian crisis and block continued normalization between Turkey and Russia.
He hoped Turkish authorities would closely cooperate with Russian bodies to unravel circumstances of this savage crime and arrest their masterminds.
Ambassador Karlov was attacked at the opening of an art exhibition in Ankara by a man believed to be an off-duty Turkish police officer. Karlov was several minutes into a speech when he was shot. Footage of the attack showed a man dressed in a suit and tie standing calmly behind the ambassador. He then pulled out a gun and fired at least eight shots.
