The Turkish community in Saudi Arabia has strongly condemned the failed military coup on Friday night.
“Turkish Democracy survived a military coup attempt. Turkish community is very pleased to witness the failure of the attempt as the deficiencies of democracy can only be fixed by more democracy and not dictatorship,” said Kamil Eren, a Turkish businessman based in Riyadh.
He said this is the reason why all the four political parties in Turkish Parliament denounced the coup attempt and supported the present leadership of Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Ali Al Turk, marketing specialist based in Riyadh, told Arab News: “We are saddened by what happened to our country by those group who were entrusted to defend our people, but by the grace of Almighty Allah it was crushed with the help of Turkish people and police”
He added: “My people deserve our sincerest salute and gratitude for what they have done by defending our country.”
According to Ismael Turkey, who is now spending his leave in Turkey, said by phone that normalcy has returned to the country. “We have a very powerful authority who could easily take control of the situation.
“I am now in Turkey and everything is normal, we don’t have any problem” Ismael said.
Turkish Prime Minister Benali Yildirim stressed that the situation in the country is under control, and vowed to hold accountable those involved in the coup. He called on the people to remain in the streets to ward off any attempt at staging a new rebellion.
At a press conference Y?ld?r?m said in his first appearance since the military coup that what happened was an attempt by the “parallel structure” in the armed forces, and it showed that Turkey has considerable experience with democracy
