Dubai Health Authority, DHA, today observed the World Radiography Day through several educational activities held at its facilities, aimed at raising people’s awareness about the importance of radiology in medical treatment.
The International Day of Radiology is globally celebrated by professionals in this field in a bid to highlight how radiology can help in diagnosis, detection and management of critical illnesses, especially different types of cancer, and to commemorate Wilhelm Roentgen’s discovery of X-ray.
This year’s theme is breast imaging, and the essential role that radiology plays in detecting medical conditions. The events, therefore, featured presentations on breast imaging and different methods used to detect breast cancer. Brochures and educational materials were also distributed among the public. People also enjoyed taking part in competitions, quiz contests, puzzles and lucky draws.
One of the DHA events took place at Latifa Hospital and was inaugurated by CEO Dr. Muna Tahlak.
In her opening speech, Dr. Tahlak stressed the importance of shedding light on the important role that radiographers have in diagnosing and managing diseases. She said that the events also aim to showcase the latest equipment used in the field of radiology at the DHA as well as raise awareness about the dangers of overexposure to radiation.
The authority spares no effort in ensuring that overexposure is minimised in the country’s hospitals and health centres by adopting international standards, she added.
People who attended the events held at the DHA facilities, included visitors from other hospitals, patients, students and healthcare providers. Directors and head of other departments also attended the event.
