Gulf Business Machines (GBM) has partnered with the Oman Association for the Hearing Impaired to support its members with employment opportunities.
GBM Oman, the region’s number one provider of IT solutions, recently recruited three of the association’s members to work on its Archiving and Documentation System project for the Ministry of Finance in Oman.
“We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to GBM for recruiting people with hearing impairment, in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance, to complete the Archiving and Documentation System project,” said Sultan bin Nasser Al Amri, chairman of the Oman Association for the Hearing Impaired.
“We truly appreciate GBM’s cooperation and efforts, and we hope to continue this collaboration so that people with hearing impairment have more opportunities to work with GBM.”
Following an initial week of work experience, the recruited members were interviewed through a translator to evaluate their experience on the job. They provided feedback that they were happy to be part of the workforce, and communicated strong interest in encouraging other members of the association to be employed in similar projects, to nurture their skills and knowledge.
“We are honoured to partner with the Oman Association for the Hearing Impaired and have its members work with us,” Sami Al Lawati, director of Shared Services and Growth Initiatives at GBM, noted.
“As an active member of the community, we strongly believe that it is our duty to provide every member of society with opportunities for development and growth, allowing them to integrate effectively into the workforce by developing their vocational skills. Our hope is that the time they spend with GBM on the project will help contribute to this.”
The recruits are expected to continue to work on the project with GBM for a period of three months, where their responsibilities will revolve around administrative and archiving tasks.
