The Emirates Happiness and Positivity Association has organised a special celebration to mark World Humanitarian Day, in co-operation with the Kelna UAE Association and the UAE Deaf Association, and under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, with the presence of Sheikh Saeed bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan.
The celebration, which was held yesterday at the campus of Al Ain University, included many performances and displays that highlighted the UAE’s leading role in Arab and international humanitarian work, and its major humanitarian initiatives and projects, since the reign of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Founder of the UAE.
The Kelna UAE Association participated in the event, and a speech was made by Dr. Saeed Al Ameri, Member of the Board of the Kelna UAE Association, where he focussed on the humanitarian legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed. He also stressed that humanitarian work was not only about symbolism and titles for Sheikh Zayed, but it was a path, philosophy and practice, and his generous hands were extended with the gift of giving to the people of the world.
Sheikh Zayed was also, through his many charity and humanitarian initiatives, one of the most important defenders of the rights of those in need, and he offered his help to them while leading in all areas of humanitarianism in every part of the world, without any religious, racial or cultural bias. He always called on everyone to spread the cultures of tolerance, peace and moderation, for the world to enjoy security and stability, he added.
"When regional and international charity and humanitarian work is mentioned, especially on World Humanitarian Day, we remember the late founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and his great humanitarian work, ethics and heritage. We also remember his considerable efforts and deep-rooted path in humanitarian work, and his contributions to easing the suffering of people in the east and the west of this Earth. That path was followed by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and its foundations were strengthened by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, who gave charity and humanitarian work special attention while taking the late Sheikh Zayed as a role model, from whose well we still drink from and on whose steps we still walk on, to establish humanitarian work as a national philosophy and immortal path," Al Ameri said.
"Sheikh Zayed had planted and established the values of giving and represented the ultimate meaning of humanitarian work, through his thousands of projects, initiatives and major programmes whose impact are still being felt right up to this day and have spread to all corners of the world, in cities, hospitals, schools, mosques, wells, scientific establishments and infrastructure projects, and which contributed to the development of many of the world’s countries and eased the suffering of many of the world’s people from all races, colours and beliefs, and had spread the virtues of giving, education and peace," he added.
"Sheikh Zayed established our love for giving, helping those in need and rescuing the helpless, for humanitarian and charity work to become a part of the UAE, which has taken, due to his legacy, thought and wisdom, the first position in humanitarian and charity work among all countries around the world. He remains, even today, the source of giving and its beginning, and the inspiration and teacher of our charity and generosity that knows no limits or boundaries, and does not differentiate between one set of people or another, regardless of nationality and race," Al Ameri further added.
At the end of his speech, Dr. Al Ameri stressed that the UAE will always remain the leader in establishing the values of giving, providing help to those in need, assisting those who are suffering, and defending those that face injustice around the world. The UAE has flourished on the values of "Zayed the Giving," drank from the well of his philosophy and wisdom, and walked on his path, and Sheikh Zayed will remain immortal with his spirit, legacy, heritage, philosophy and principles, which he established and planted in the people of the UAE.
