Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz stressed on Friday that his current visit to Egypt is aimed at boosting the historical ties between the two countries, cementing cooperation, serving the causes of the Arab and Islamic nations and supporting the regional and international peace and security.
"The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has stood by Egypt with all its potentials and in different circumstances, which made our both countries a strong fortress for our Arab and Islamic nations," the King told a joint press conference with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in Cairo.
He asserted that late King Abdulaziz, the founder of the Kingdom, was keen on strengthening the Saudi-Egyptian relations and his only foreign visit during his rule was to Egypt in 1946, which confirmed the great attention he paid for the ties with Cairo.
King Salman pointed out to a number of agreements, memoranda of understanding and executive programs that were signed today between Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
He thanked the chairmen and members of a Saudi-Egyptian coordination council over their efforts to upgrade the level of bilateral relations in various fields and to serve the interests of the two countries.
"I have agreed with President Sisi to establish a land line connecting both countries that are located in the heart of the world," King Salman said.
He described the move as historic as the line will connect Asia and Africa, which will help increase the trade volume to unprecedented levels and support the two countries' exports to the world.
He added that he was proud of the Arab unity against "attempts to interfere in our internal affairs."
"We have stood against attempts to undermine security and stability of Yemen and topple the legitimacy," he said.
"We have confirmed our solidarity through forming an Islamic military alliance comprising 39 countries to fight terrorism," he added.
