Motorists are being advised of the partial closure of one the capital’s busiest roads ahead of a massive demonstration of the UAE Armed Forces.
The Corniche will be closed to traffic on Thursday, March 2, in both directions from its junction with 18th Street, leading to Marina Mall, to Mubarak bin Mohammed Street.
Abu Dhabi Theatre Road on the Marina Mall Breakwater will also be closed. Diversions will be in place along Sultan bin Zayed the First Street and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Street.
Union Fortress is the first joint demonstration involving all branches of the military: the Presidential Guard, the Joint Aviation Command, the Navy, the Air Force, Air Defence and the Army.
Highlights include a dramatic high-altitude, low-opening freefall jump from an aircraft on to the Corniche. Also on display will be a submarine, with special forces onboard, a rapid maritime assault craft and helicopters carrying snipers. They will be supported by F16s in a fly-by.
A park-and-ride service for visitors will be available from Umm Al Emarat Park from 2pm.
The event will be open to the public from 4.30pm onwards and visitors are encouraged to arrive early.
