Member of Loyalty to the Resistance Parliamentary Bloc, MP Kamel al Rifai, said on Saturday that the electoral law proposed by Minister Gibran Bassil has a sectarian streak to it and would sabotage Lebanon's future and its democratic reputation.
Speaking to Radio Al Fajer, Rifai lamented the nature of current electoral deliberations, which might lead to a consensual, albeit distorted law that did not live up to the aspirations of the Lebanese people.
The MP noted that the new electoral law would be similar to the 60s law, which embodied a backward and fanatical Lebanese mentality that did not properly represent what citizens wanted.
