There was a 0.6 per cent increase in the number of Omani nationals working in the private sector in May 2016, compared with figures for April, according to the latest bulletin published by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

As of May, there were 211,370 Omanis employed in the private sector, compared to 210,074 Omanis in April.

Significantly, the report shows that as of May, women made up less than one quarter of the total Omani workforce in the private sector, at 51,618.

It was further reported that the great majority of Omanis employed in the private sector drew a salary of OMR325-400.

Their numbers logged a 0.8 per cent drop to 62,098 in May, compared with April figures. In contrast, as many as 7,871 Omanis working in the private sector were entitled to a hefty salary of over OMR2,000, and their numbers rose by 0.8 per cent in May, compared with the previous month. Further, the number of Omanis with a salary of OMR400 to 500 stood at 48,763, even as the number of those earning OMR500 to 600 increased 1.4 per cent to 22,163.

As many as 15,647 Omanis were paid a salary of OMR600 to 700 in May, and their numbers increased 1.1 per cent over April figures.

Further, an increase of 0.8 per cent was recorded in the number of nationals drawing a salary of OMR700-800, with their numbers standing at 9,804.

Nationals employed in the private sector with a salary of OMR800-900 and OMR900-1,000 registered a rise of 0.3 per cent and 1.2 per cent over the period, to reach 6,970 and 5,488, respectively.

The number of Omani employees paid OMR1,000-2,000 also rose 0.7 per cent to 19,910 in May, compared with April, as detailed in the report.
