The Tunisian and Algerian armed forces conducted joint military exercises off Tabarka from November 22 to 28, baptised "Morjane 2016", the Tunisian official news agency TAP quoted the National Defence Ministry as saying on Monday.
In a statement, the department said these manoeuvres are part of the joint training of the Tunisian and Algerian navies to face the possible threats facing the region and to implement the unified command plan for the execution of missions of mutual interest.
The two countries’ naval forces, an Algerian reconnaissance aircraft and a Tunisian helicopter participated in this manoeuvre, which involved intercepting and inspecting an illegal vessel and conducting search and rescue operations.
Maritime protection exercises and firing training were also carried out as part of this manoeuvre, according to the same source.
