A suspected drug user who lashed out at a Dubai cop after a police team burst into his home and woke him up was sentenced to five years in jail on Monday.
The Emirati, 22, was in the bedroom of his Al Barsha home when he awoke to find officers around him.
Dubai Criminal Court convicted him of physical assault and issuing insults after he attacked and shouted insults at an Emirati officer, 28, during the incident on October 23 last year.
Police had received a tip-off that the man was a user, though it was not mentioned in court which drugs were found.
The officer who was attacked testified: "When I woke him up and told him we were police and we had a warrant, he attacked me, then insulted me using very much foul language."
Prosecutors said the man was eventually controlled.
Police found drugs in his room and a medical report confirmed he had been using them.
"I don’t recall insulting or assaulting him," said the defendant in court, though he did admit using drugs.
He was also fined Dh20,000.
