Thirteen members of disbanded militant group Ajnad Misr were sentenced to death on Sunday by a Cairo criminal court after being convicted of launching attacks on security forces, judicial sources said.

A top Egyptian court upheld on Saturday a life sentence for ousted Islamist president Mohamed Mursi in a case revolving around state documents leaked to Qatar, a judicial official said.

A policeman and a civilian were killed and three people wounded in an attack late on Thursday on a patrol in Esna, south of Luxor, the Interior Ministry said.
The police patrol had stopped a vehicle and when stopped, two gunmen fired on the patrol, the ministry said in a statement.
