The prefect on the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe on Monday ordered the mandatory evacuation of areas at risk from Hurricane Maria, an approaching Category 4 storm.
The order, effective from 4pm local time, bars specific areas considered to be at risk of "flooding, submersion and landslips," the statement, issued by the island's top official, said.
