Dubai - WAM

The Mohammed bin Rashid Global Centre for Endowment Consultancy, MBRGCEC, and the Emirates Wildlife Society in association with WWF, EWS-WWF, have confirmed Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, DEWA, as a contributor to their joint Environment Endowment Fund, EEF.

This initiative is part of DEWA’s effort to protect the environment and the local and international climate, and promote the strategic partnership between DEWA and EWS-WWF. This includes the development of the Climate Change Research and Learning Programme, CCRLP, in Wadi Wurayah, Fujairah.

The EEF will strengthen public awareness about the importance of environmental programmes, and encourage companies to undertake their corporate social responsibility to support initiatives, studies, and research in the environment, to promote sustainable development and preserve natural resources in the UAE. DEWA was accredited after meeting the requirements and commitments of the impact giving criteria, and will donate AED1 million.

"DEWA supports the efforts of the UAE in various institutions to reduce the impact of climate change. In line with the #Year_of_Giving, declared by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and following the Global Initiative for Endowment, launched by Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and includes the financing of programmes to preserve the environment, we strive to maintain a clean and safe environment and reduce carbon emissions that have become a worldwide threat," said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.

"In the light of the partnership between DEWA and EWS-WWF, to develop the research and training programme on climate change in Wadi Wurayah, and to reduce carbon footprint, we recorded DEWA as a supporter of the environment, in recognition of its ongoing efforts to preserve it. We hope that other companies will do the same as DEWA, to protect our rich cultural heritage and contribute to the development of the nation," said Laila Mostafa Abdullatif, Director-General at EWS-WWF.
