Tunisian Prime Minister Habib Essid on Monday called the defense and interior ministers for an urgent meeting in the wake of a terrorist attack against the country's national guard barracks in Ben Gardan city close to the borders with Libya at dawn.
A statement by the Tunisian government said the meeting will take up the developments in Ben Gardan city.
The Tunisian premier phoned the Tunisian president and parliament speaker to brief them on the latest developments and consult them over the measures needed to secure the southeastern border areas against any potential terrorist attacks.
One Tunisian soldier and ten terrorists were killed after the army foiled a terrorist attack targeting the country's national guard barracks in Ben Gardan city close to the country's border with Libya, the Defense Ministry spokesman said Monday.
The city inhabitants were urged by the authorities to stay indoor as clashes ensued between the security forces and the unidentified gunmen, the spokesman said as quoted by Mosaic Radio.
Security forces were heavily deployed in Ben Gardan to hunt the remaining terrorists while all entrances of the city were sealed off.
Some other sources said five civilians were killed in the confrontations.
