Top Arab singer Samira Said is pleased with the reception to her last album “Ayza Aeesh” (I want to live).
After a seven-year absense from the music scene, Said released the album, which was an immediate hit.
“The album was make or break for me,” she said. “Thank God it was a success because I had decided to quit my musical career had it flopped,” the Moroccan-Egyptian Arabic pop singer, who has long been a household name across the Arab world, said.
“Ayza Aeesh” sold over 200,000 copies during the first of week of its availability.
Throughout Said’s singing career many successive generations have come to identify with her.
In an interview with Sayidaty, Arab News’ sister publication, Said, 59, pointed out that failure would have meant she was no longer up to the standard and that is why she would have called it a day. The singer also revealed that she does not believe in marrying a second time. “I have learned to live on my own and make my own decisions, and it would be difficult to accept someone else at this stage,” she added.
Her grown-up son, Shadi, is with her all the time. He also refuses to marry. “I can’t force him, but I am happy with his decision as he is a free man,” the singer, who said she is not afraid of aging, added.
