Minister of Interior Magdy Abdel Ghaffar met in his office Tuesday with Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Yuri Viktorovich Fedotov currently visiting Cairo at the head of a high-level delegation and discussed with him a number of issues of mutual concern.
Emerging from the meeting, Fedotov, a former Russian diplomat, stressed the importance of Egypt's role in achieving peace and stability in the region after terrorist operations.
The meeting also dealt with efforts to confront recruiting foreign fighters to join terrorist groups in the war-ravaged areas, he said.
The UN official said his visit to Cairo came within the framework of distinguished ties between the Egyptian Ministry of Interior and UNODC.
He praised the efforts of the Ministry of Interior in dismantling the illegal immigration networks and confronting the crimes which increased recently.
For his part, minister Abdel Ghaffar praised security cooperation between Egypt's security agencies and UNODC.
The two sides shared identical viewpoints on dealing with security challenges and agreed to continue coordination and consultations through the channels concerned to confront terrorism and other crimes.
