The efforts made by the General Women’s Union to support and empower women in all walks of life, have been praised by a delegation of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court.
During a visit to the headquarters of the General Women’s Union in Abu Dhabi, the members of the delegation expressed admiration for the activities conducted by the Union under the presidency of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, to support women and the contributions of the union's Department of Heritage and Crafts Industries to the revival and preservation of traditional crafts.
Noura Al Suwaidi, Director of the General Women’s Union, highlighted that the progress achieved in women’s empowerment, as well as their contributions to the UAE Vision 2021 and the National Strategy, is attributed to the efforts of H.H. Sheikha Fatima. The union is currently updating the national strategy for women’s development, in co-operation with relevant ministries, local and federal government departments, civil society and international organisations, she added.
Several directors of departments at the General Women’s Union accompanied the delegation during their tour, which included the Al Jawhara Hall, and they viewed several commemorative shields and awards obtained by Sheikha Fatima from local and international authorities, in appreciation of her role in supporting humanitarian and charity causes, and empowering UAE women.
The delegation also visited Sheikha Fatima’s library that houses literature on women from the UAE and the Arab world, including books, reports, research studies and audio-visual publications.
